This is an excellent set of DVD's, some of the best I have ever used with parent groups! The entire video shows families spending time together and not just someone talking through the entire video. For example, "connecting parents to schools" is filmed in families homes and schools and shows ways that families can help create an environment of learning. They show a mom and son folding clothes together and how sorting socks is an excellent opportunity to teach your children about matching colors and sizes. They show another mom and her children measuring together for a recipe they are creating. Another family playing games together and yet another creating a schedule together to put up on the fridge so that children will know what is expected of them. When it comes to the school connection it shows families going to parent teacher conferences and to the office to seek help and support. It specifically addresses how parents who do not speak English can get connected with schools regardless of language barriers.

Diverse families are represented throughout the entire series doing different daily activitities such as going to the library together.

I can not say enough about this video series. If you work with parent groups this is a must!! I use it during school family nights to help Latino parents understand their role as their children's first and most important teacher and what they can do to create an environment of learning so that their children can succeed in school. I also use these videos when I present to groups of Latino parents who are in Early Childhood Family Education. I have received really positive feedback from parents. When parents watch the video they see real life examples from real life families (like themselves) specific activities they can do to help their children with learning.

If you want to help the families you are working with have real life examples of how they can help their children learn both at home and school than this video is for you. I promise that I did not get paid to say this - I just love these videos. They are the backbone of my work with families and I would buy 10 sets if I had the $. So many parents are craving for info on tangable ways that they can help their children. And for immigrant parents who may have limited literacy and language skills visual learning is a great tool.

Thanks,
Monie
